Ode to the American Museum of Natural History

Oh American Museum of Natural History I knowCattle are inextricably tied to beauty.Science can’t tell us the good life says your video
But none are fit to die if they do not know the dutyand the joy of living. That’s inscribed above the ticket desk!Museum, inside you say to me: Insects in Peril! Oh what do we do we
Turn down our lights, do science, embrace bees, what next:You maze you marvelous cavernous cave your halls teemWith mammals, satin jungle cats glossed with outdated plaques—
So I almost forgot about colonialism. Africa as a president’s elephant dream—Is it ok to forget for a minute? No. I get lost in the Hall of BiodiversityLooking for the Insectarium where live antcutter ants actually cut leaves!
Or Ocean Life: I sit under the whale belly & really feel a change in me,The plastic grooved underside mostly sees tourists eatNot-allowed sandwiches but the whale will never leave.
Oh Museum, where animals out of time seem to breathein their litup boxes that everyone looks at. When I die, you know where to put me.
